Parent-Toddler Program

Our parent and toddler program is for children, birth to 3 years old, and their caregivers. We offer two types of programs, our forest program, and our indoor program. The programs offer parents and children the opportunity to come together in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere to explore the wonders of the first years of life and give parents a living picture of the Waldorf philosophy for early childhood in action.

Our forest program has fall and spring sessions. During these sessions, the teacher leads groups of families through the beautiful woodland trails around Aurora Waldorf School and shares the wonders of a Waldorf approach to education. Each group meets once a week for 90 minutes.

Our indoor program is a winter session. The class is filled with meaningful work, as wholesome snacks are prepared. The children enjoy open-ended play and join together for snack and circle time. While the majority of the time is spent indoors, there is still some outdoor time during each class. Each group meets once a week for 2 hours.

Applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. After notifying you of your placement, AWS will contact you about payment. Payment in full is required to reserve your placement in the Parent-Toddler program. Payments are non-refundable after the program begins.

Fall Parent-Toddler Forest Program

During this Fall session, families will be welcomed to explore the beautiful fields and forest around Aurora Waldorf School each week during a 90-minute class for adults and their toddlers who are walking and eager to get their feet on the ground and for babies in carriers. Activities include forest hikes, outdoor free play/exploration, circle time, seasonal songs, puppetry, and nature-based projects and crafts.

Research shows that forest programs help build curious, confident, resilient, team-oriented children who hold a strong connection to the natural world. Furthermore, encountering hills to climb and descend, mud to squish in, and rooted forest floors to navigate amidst all types of weather support childrens’ sensory development - a primary focus of Waldorf early childhood education.

Classes meet one (1) day per week from 9:30 am -11:00 am for a total of 10 classes this Fall.
