AWS vs Gow 10/11

Posted 3 weeks ago

On October 11th, the AWS Eagles visited the Gow Ravens, an all-male soccer team of 8-10th graders, for their second match-up. Game captains for the Eagles included Audrey Watts (G8), Joe Ceu (G8), and Liv Lehner (G8). On this gorgeous autumn day, Drew Kemp (G8) revved up the team with her cheers and chants. Gow took the lead early when they snuck in the first and second goals at the 3 and 5-minute marks. Ceu, starting in goal, gracefully stopped a penalty shot soon after and accumulated a total of 10 saves in the first half.

AWS vs Olmstead

Posted 3 weeks ago

On October 9th, another fine fall day, the AWS Eagles soccer team challenged the Olmstead school at Rumsey Field in Delaware park. With a full team, the Eagles scored first at the 5-minute mark. The Nussbaumer siblings were back in action. Calloway (G8) crossed a pass in front of the goal to allow George (G7) an exciting first goal. The Olmstead strikers had excellent footwork, but the Eagles speed and excellent defense limited shots on goal.

The 2019 Michaelmas Festival was a true celebration of courage and community! Thank you to those who committed extra time to make it truly special. The morning started with a lovely assembly filled with singing, performances by the Grade 1- 8 students, which highlighted various aspects of our rich curriculum. It also included a rather comical eurythmy re-enactment of the French tale, Micheal and Diablo.

Middle School Sports - 9/20/19

Posted 1 month ago

On September 20th, a gorgeous fall day, the AWS Eagles soccer team opened their season against the Gow Ravens. The final score was 6-3, with Gow taking the lead early in the first half, including a “bicycle kick” by a Pele-like Raven. Our Eagles, led by Coach Mark Lim, appeared to have great chemistry and aggressiveness to come from behind to score three goals in the second half. Calloway Nussbaumer (G8) with an assist from Elias “Wheels” Nojaim (G6) had the first goal, George Nussbaumer (G7) was unassisted on the second, and Nojaim had the third goal on an assist from C. Nussbaumer.

Happy Birthday, Waldorf Education

Posted 2 months ago

For the Waldorf education centennial, September 19, 2019, Waldorf students from more than 70 countries will be taking part in activities and events that celebrate this momentous occasion, reflect our shared values and promote initiatives that revitalize society and the earth.

We started our celebration early with the AWS Waldorf100 Community Potluck held on August 29th. It was a beautiful evening of food, fun, and friends.  There were close to 100 people in attendance with a large variety of dishes, and both alumni and current families mingling in near-perfect weather. This zero-waste event was a true success with only one small plastic wrap and recyclable tin pan remaining.  The potluck ended with a lovely group photo that will be shown at the international Waldorf100 celebration in Berlin.

On September 19th, we will ring the school bell at the beginning of the school day and the students will receive a special birthday treat at snack time.

You can watch the worldwide celebration in Berlin live at https://www.waldorf-100.org/en/livestream/.
