Growing AWS & Sharing What Makes Us Special

Wildlife Meadow Meeting

On a rain-drenched evening, twelve (12!) wildlife meadow enthusiasts gathered at AWS to discuss this exciting project. Our guests included the WNY Land Conservancy's Nancy Smith, Executive Director, and Andy Lance, Restoration Project Manager, and Kevin McNallie of the NYS Parks Department and Manager of the Knox Farm native species nursery.

It is a renewed call to action to delve into the pain of past injustices, to learn to value each other anew, to engage in conversation courageously, listening, speaking, and to bring about change in ourselves, our families, and communities.

AWS Reopening Plan for NYS 7/29/2020

The AWS Reopening Plan for NYS describes how we will meet the requirements outlined in the guidance for independent schools provided by the NY State Department of Health and the NY State Department of Education. 

We anticipate that the future updates to the guidelines from the State will cause us to revise this document, and to that end, we will maintain updated copies on our school website.

7/17 Draft Reopening Plan & 7/22 Community Meeting

The AWS faculty, staff, and leadership groups continue to meet with earnest intention, as we imagine and creatively plan for the 2020-21 school year. The AWS RTF (Reopening Task Force) and its many working groups have been hard at work creating this DRAFT reopening plan for 2020-21. We created this plan based on the following:

  • Parent feedback provided through the June Crafting the Year Ahead survey
  • Faculty feedback on remote learning
  • Interim Guidance requirements from NYSDOH & NYSED

Dear AWS Community,

We stand in solidarity with Black and Brown people, and those forced to contend with the trauma of injustice, hatred, and oppression. We see color and recognize that both personal and systemic change is the only way to stop the violence and brutality that has permeated our society for far too long. AWS is committed to addressing the growth of our collective consciousness in working to dismantle systems that perpetuate inequality. We will continue to improve our work with students to best carry out our mission: “Providing a place where children love to learn, educating children for all aspects of life, and fostering capacities within to become successful, self-assured adults who contribute to a better world.
